Nature video website, WildEarth.TV, have announced a
dedicated 3D channel in conjunction with French IPTV provider,
Free.
Wild Earth have been broadcasting online for three years now,
and are the latest TV provider to move into 3D (though their
offering relies less on 3D sports than other channels, and more on
the fact that getting terrorised by a stereoscopic lion live in
your own living room sounds pretty fun). They use a side-by-side
3DHD rig similar to those available from us, here.
CEO and co-founder of Wild Earth, Graham Wallington, told
Broadbandtvnews.com their aim is to create a fully immersive,
realistic nature experience. "We are creating a sense of
telepresence by transmitting live and giving people the feeling of
what it is like to be on safari. There is no scripted narrative, no
staged events or cutaways to recorded footage of lion kills. This
is safari as it happens," he added.
You'll need a 3D TV and a Free.fr subscription (or to be living
in France) to watch Wild Earth's 3D output at the moment, but they
will soon be supporting a range of internet-enabled set-top boxes
so you can receive it anywhere.
