Do you want to recreate
the 3D cinema experience in the comfort of your own home? Well,
thanks to RealD, it's about to get that bit easier. The company,
who are the ones behind the passive 3D glasses that have turned
cinemagoers across the nation into Buddy Holly lookalikes, have
announced that they hope to release full HD passive 3D TV before
the end of 2011.
At the moment, the only way to watch 3D at home is using active
shutter glasses, but according to RealD president Josh Greer,
affiliated companies including Sony, Samsung (who've also partnered
up with Virgin Media to deliver 3D On Demand) and Panasonic will
have access to RealD's passive 3D TV technology in 2011.
The passive HD 3D TV system will use the same ZScreen technology
that RealD have employed successfully in cinemas. Though the
screens themselves will probably be pricer than their active 3D
counterparts, the glasses themselves should be relatively cheap -
and are available now from your local multiplex.
